Ernesto Neto Exhibit at The Nasher Sculpture Garden

We've been working on a bunch of projects lately and needed a bit of a creative reboot
and so jumped at the chance to take a break and check out the absolutely sublime
Ernesto Neto bridge at The Nasher Sculpture Center. Magical. That's right, MAGICAL.
Please excuse the inelegant art language, but I can only describe it as part complex
crochet, part rainbow, and part home. Just a special moment. And, it was just what our
brains (and souls) needed.

So, we topped the morning off with lunch and a brainstorming session outside in their
backgarden/ outdoor gallery. Always amazes me that we have such a treasure in the
middle of Dallas. Hopefully, there will be an appropriate resolution to everything that
is happening with the Museum Tower..

3rd EVER DIORAMA-O-RAMA

Looking forward to tonight. Gonna be heading out to Bolt Studios to check out all
the great artwork for The Third Ever Diorama-O-Rama Art Auction which benefits
the awesome Cafe Momentum. Excited to be able to get a sneak peak with the other
Dallas judges and friends - Adam and Alicia of Bows and Arrows, DJ Blake Ward,
milliner Cassie McGregor, Heyd Fontenot from Central Trak Gallery, Julie Webb of
the Webb Gallery, architect Kelly Mitchell, Sam Reitmayer of Style/Swoon, and
musician Sarah Jaffe. Can't wait to see all the entries tonight!

Second Location In Bishop Arts

We're super excited to formally announce that, last week, we finally signed the lease for
our second location in The Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff. We cannot be more excited
to be able to expand and to be a part of such a great Dallas neighborhood. It is our goal
to continue to support Dallas's creative community by bringing thoughtfully designed
gifts, art prints, homewares, jewelry, stationary, books, toys.. from Dallas and from all
over the world.

In addition, we are so happy to get the extra space because we have wanted to create
a dedicated WE ARE 1976 WORKROOM™ for printmaking and creative collaboration
for quite a while. We will have space for screenprinting and our all of our letterpresses
(a Challenge Proof Press, Vandercook 325, and a couple of smaller ones, like the tabletop
Pilot). Once we get the the logistics of finishing out the new space figured out, we will
be offering printmaking workshops and custom design work at this location. We are
tentatively planning to open around mid July - August 2012.

We also wanted to clarify that we still will have our Henderson shop in East Dallas.
We love our neighbors and this area very much and are very grateful to be a part of it.
And, now thanks to the additional space, we are ready to bring in more fun art and design
events and parties to our calendar. The three of us are beyond grateful for all the opportunity
and support given to us and our little shop. Thank you.

Digs Dallas!

The yard on one side of the house.

Perhaps one of the best Saturday mornings in a long while. Right before heading to the
shop, met up with good friend Esther, architect and estate sale MAVEN of Digs Dallas
to check out an estate/demolition sale 4808 Dexter in Turtle Creek - one of the most
beautiful homes I've ever seen - great mid century modern design, lush mature trees
that fits right into the landscaping and, definitely my favorite detail, TWO bridges that
lead you right up to the front door.

If you love estate sale shopping and feeling like you're travelling back in time, then
you gotta check out Digs Dallas. She finds bargains, has en eye for repurposing, and,
probably my fav thing is that she's so so knowledgable on art and Dallas architectural
history; It makes the somewhat invasive process of going through someone's home
and their precious keepsakes a little more poignant.

Not only do are Jane Mount's simple colorful illustrations charming, but I truly appreciate
this idea of capturing a person by their favorite and most influential books. The Ideal Bookshelf
is such a revealing and complex way of understanding someone. In her own words, it's
"an intimiate form of portraiture."

This is really fun to think about. We just did a quick shop survey, on my Ideal Bookshelf,
I'd have A Fine Balance, Jully would have The Body Ecology Diet, and Derek would have
The Little Prince...

SXSW, Y'all.

Recognize these guys?

We really really really look forward to this. This year Derek made his second trip down to
Austin (check out our first) for some major SXSW Flatstock Poster Lovin'. If you're a fan
of clever poster design, beautiful screenprinting, music, and indie thinking, this is mecca.
It was a great day of seeing the printmakers that we've been carrying (Methane, Burlesque,
DKNG, Land Land, Hero and Sound, and so many more...), putting faces to names, and
finding a ton of new prints for our shop. Cannot think of a better way to spend the afternoon.

Over here!

Last week, during spring break, Derek, ShopDad, and ShopKid got a chance to head out
to Arizona for the Ranger's Training Camp. Cannot think anything that feels more like
summer, hope and America than baseball.

Forty minute wait outside made very easy by food truck tacos!

Last night we headed down to Quixotic World in Deep Ellum for the second and completely
packed Vinyl Thoughts Art Show. Great to see a lot of familiar faces and we were really
proud to participate again this year. But mainly, we were happy to see the Dallas art
community hold such a successful and inspiring art event.

Real life Tetris.

Pretty proud of my brother. Check out Derek's process for our shop's contribution for the
raffle give-aways for the Vinyl Thoughts Art Show, which is dedicated to the custom vinyl
toy scene in Dallas's and Texas's art community. We had so much fun last year, that we
were super excited to get involved again. This year's theme played with the idea of video
games and being waaay-back old-school nerds, we couldn't think of a better game to work
with then Tetris.

outs are from London based artist Claire Brewster. Love how she adds depth to these with
