Workshops

All our workshops are designed to offer you high-quality instruction and information in a relaxed and friendly setting. Ideas can be discussed and projects undertaken gradually at the pace of the student. Small group sizes and an informal atmosphere mean that you can learn from practice, observation, and discussion with other students. Workshops are held in our shop’s studio space, unless otherwise specified. Check back often for event dates and schedules. WE ARE 1976 loves to collaborate with artists, schools, art clubs, and other organizations for workshops. Please contact us for more information.

LEARNING! FUN! EXCITEMENT! PERIL?

Don’t worry, this is a beginner level workshop focused on zine making. Zines are self-published booklets varying in content (artistic, political, cultural, etc.). You’ll leave this workshop with an understanding of numerous bookbinding techniques and a few zines made by you! We'll also provide the materials you need to continue making zines at home! And hopefully you like homemade cookies because there will be plenty of them, and no moms telling you how many you can have!
(Moms are welcome - cookie supervision is however discouraged.)

Love Letters - Calligraphy Workshop

Create a one-of-a-kind Valentine on the 10th of February 2010, from 6:30-8:30pm at
our first calligraphy workshop with local calligraphers, Marcy Feldman & Emily Kieta of
Ink Pen Inc. Students will be introduced to the art of gold leaf and illumination as used
in calligraphy. Marcy and Emily will have several payouts for you to choose from or feel

La Petite Bookbinding Workshop with Studio 204

Just in time for Valentines Day! Come join us on Thursday, February 4th at 6:30 and learn
how to make a miniature hard cover book with Kim Neiman of Studio 204. Select a hand
bound text block complete with foil stamp "my heart belongs to you" ready to inscribe to
that special someone. Choose your covering material from a selection of custom letterpress
book cloth and papers with coordinating headbands to add the finishing touch to your
